Ragging is an offence under A.P. Prohibition of Ragging Act 1997, punishable by six months to seven years imprisonment. Abettors will also face similar punishment.

University Grants Commission


The University Grants Commission conferred the status of ‘Autonomy’ to the College to facilitate introduction of innovative courses at the undergraduate level from the year 1988. Autonomy has made the college responsible for its own academic programmes, admission process and assessment rules. This has resulted in all round development of students having regard to their special needs and aptitudes. The College has established itself as a pioneer among the autonomous colleges of Hyderabad and has the potential of developing into a Women’s University.


UCW was the first of the Osmania University Constituent Colleges to seek accreditation. The NAAC team visited the College in February 1999 and after a comprehensive assessment, taking into consideration various parameters, it had accorded 5 stars to the college which was the highest grade then., followed by two Cycles of NAAC reaccreditation with “A grade”.

College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)

The UGC has identified the College as a "College with Potential for Excellence" and sanctioned a grant of Rupees one crore for a period of 3 years for the years 2004-05 to 2006 - 07, for the development of Infrastructure and automation including fibre optic cabling and equipment. During the academic year 2010-11 the UGC renewed the status and has given a grant of Rs.75 lakhs. With this fund the following development have been taken up :

  • Automation of Library
  • Automation of Examination Branch
  • e-learning Centre with SPSS & Tally software facility.
  • Cyber Cafe with internet facility.
  • Independent Health Centre.
  • Modernization of some of the departments by procuring latest equipment.
  • English Department procured level 1 & leve 2 Software for increasing the English Language Communicative Skills. The Course is available for all the students.
  • Gym for Students / Staff.
  • Bar coded ID cards for students.
  • Protected drinking water aided by Reverse Osmosis System

2016-17 CPE Status( Third Cycle ) renewed.


An additional grant of Rs.50 lakhs was sanctioned by UGC to the College. The College purchased Generators for uninterrupted power supply to all the labs and to the Administrative Block. Latest teaching aids like Interactive Boards, LCD projectors etc. have been setup.


The Department of Chemistry was identified by DST under FIST programme (funds for infrastructure for Science & Technology). Under this programme Rs.59 lakhs were sanctioned. Various equipments were purchased which are available to students & research scholars.

Emphasis to the deprived groups for learning and creating space for them to mainstream them is being done through Equal Opportunity Cell which runs specific scheme of coaching for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBC (non-creamy layer), Minorities in order to enhance their employability and success.


It is proposed to start a ST/SC Cell for which proposals are being sent to UGC.
