ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
Undergraduate programmes in Arts & Social Sciences, Science and Commerce focus on providing a rigorous training to students in the subjects of their choice. The students are equipped with all the necessary skills required to take up employment in related fields. These programmes are aimed at inculcating a spirit of inquiry, stimulate independent thinking, and impart analytical and experimental abilities. An effort is made to create a sense of selfreliance in students and give them an orientation to seek suitable employment and also generate self-employment. Students are made to be aware of their responsibility to people and society around them. College organises weekly seminars for all the students. Experts from different fields are invited to deliver lectures. The objective of these weekly seminars is to enhance general and environmental awareness of the students and inculcate values.
Postgraduate programmes in Arts & Social Sciences, Science, Commerce and Management enable students to develop expertise in their special areas of study and inculcate in them a keen interest in research. These courses are designed in such a way that students not only acquire the knowledge of the latest developments in their field but also try to contribute to further the developments. Postgraduate programmes are linked to the employment needs of different social and scientific organizations, thus forging a vital link between the University and Society.
Diploma, Certificate and Add-on Courses are primarily vocational courses, which train students for specific jobs. These courses are need-based and they are designed in consonance with the requirements of various private and public sector organizations.

College have 19 UG courses in different combinations offered by 29 Departments and 20 PG courses offered by 17 Departments.

ABOUT A FEW SPECAIL COURSES
1. MASS COMMUNICATION:
This course, based on the needs of the industry and market demands,caters to the students to get placements in the Media,Corporate,Public,and Private Sector and Government organizations.It is designed to provide expertise in various skills like,reporting,editing,writing for media,advertising and public relations.
2. Computer Course for B.A.:
from the current academic year 2013-14, OUCW is introducing Computer Science as one of the Optional subjects for the Bachelor of Arts(BA) degree students to combine computer science with other disciplines.Appropriately designed for contemporary market requirements it has the following objectives.
OBJECTIVES: The course addresses issues of :Computer literacy:skill development;Placements for Social Sciences & Humanities students whether they choose to pursue careers from domestic spasce as home makers or in the market as professionals or pursue advanced studies-be it India or abroad. This degree provides necessary technical,critical,and conceptual foundation for students interested in pursuing fields that combine technology with other faculties-Social Sciences & Humanities in this case.
It proposes to provide necessary depth of expertise in computer science to pursue careers and also gain sufficient exposure to other subjects to be able to interact with professionals in that field in a knowledgeable manner,so as to apply computer science techniques to problems in the other subjects/areas.
we are also launching an Add-On Certificate Course in Basics of Computers targeting those students who have inadquate computer training at lower levels of education and those who pursue Graduate Programmes in regional languages.There are Post Graduation courses in Digital Humanities in the universites abroad.
3. Biological Chemistry:
Biological Chemistry specialization offers syllabus(theory and practical) such that the students taking this optional subject will have good knowledge of Biochemistry with a through background of Chemistry. Students on completion of this course have secured admission in M.Sc courses of prestigious universities in the country.
The students taking up biological chemistry shall be eligible to give P.G.entrance test in both Chemistry & biochemistry.
4. Food Science Management:
- FSM is a vocational course educating students in most relevant fields of Food Sceience such as adulteration,preservation and analysis in both theory and practicals.
- FSM offers Enterpreneurial Development Programme as one of the papers.The syllabus for the paper is designed with all basic modalities that are required to start an enterprise which includes the procedure for seeking financial assistance from Banks,State and Central Government agencies,taping the conventional and non-conventional resources,development of a product,its packaging criteria ,quality control,advertising adn marketing in both theory adn practical classes.
- As part of the curriculum for vocational courses,students go for one month on the job training in food industries at the end of the fourth semester.
5. Food Technology:
The Deparment of Food and Nutrition offers B.Sc.(Nutrition and Food Technology), M.Sc(Nutrition and Dietetics)course and Ph.D Programme in Nutrition. Nutrition and Dietetics is a vital,growing field and the opportunities and possibilities in the field are endless.
Food Technology in terms is the application of Food Science in Manufacturing good products,which are safe,wholesome and nutritions. Food Industry has becamea high-profit industry by reason of the scope it offers in India and Abroad as a high-priority area. The students of the department are well placed in various Educational Institutions as Teaching Faculty, in reputed Multi Speciality Hospitals as Dieticians,in various Food Industries as Food Technologists and Food Analysts,in fitness and Slimming centers as Dieticians and Nutritionists, in the Commercial Food Service Establishments as Nutrition Professionals, as Research Associates and Assistants in various ICAR,ICMR,UGC,World Bank,APCOST,DST,DBT,Women Scientist Sponsored Projects and as Officers in various Government and Private Organizations.
