PROFILE OF THE MASS COMMUNICATION AND JOURNALISM DEPARTMENT
The Mass communication and Journalism department was established in the year 1997. But in the year 2008 it became an independent department.
Courses offered: The department of Mass Communication 0ffers 4 papers in B.A Mass Communication consisting of evolution of Mass media, history of Mass media, theories of communication, development communication, use of mass media in development, Advertising and Public Relations. It also includes the study of ICT’s their use in communication.
Highlight of the course:
The course curriculum is designed keeping in view the industry requirements and it is tailor made to suit the need of the print and broadcast media. The theory and practical’s are integrated to give a all around knowledge of the media industry to the students they are trained rigorously and after the completion of the course they have an option to directly enter the media or to pursue their higher education in the field of Communication.


Qualification and achievements of the staff:
The Mass Communication department is headed by Mr.B..KRISHNAJIRAO, who is a Gold medallist in BCJ and MCJ and he is rank holder from the OSMANIA UNIVERSITY his other qualifications also include MBA, LLB, PG.Diploma in Public Relations and PG.Diploma in Alternate dispute resolutions with an experience of 8yrs in Marketing and IPR’s. Additional qualification includes National EligibilityTest (NET) and presently pursuing Ph.D in Journalism.

Syllabus:
The syllabi consists of subjects in the history of the mass media, Media evolution, Mass media theories, the latest developments in media, the convergence of ICT’s with the changing of the media technology, Media laws, advertising and Public Relations.
The New syllabus (copy enclosed) is designed to integrate with the latest technologies and requirements of the media industry both print and broadcast. It is designed in such a way that at the end of the course the students are industry ready and can do jobs both in print and broadcast.
Infrastructure in the department:
The department has a full- fledged computer lab with the latest software like quark express for making news paper layout, abode Photoshop etc. The lab has twelve computers and it is being used to conduct practicals in ICTs. This lab helps in training students in the latest software required for making layouts and they are making reports that are taking place in the college.
Collaborations:
The department has tied up with department of Communication and Journalism in the Arts and Science College Osmania University to train students in the latest software for print media and they are trained in usage of camera and editing techniques and already one batch of students have been trained.

Placements opportunities for students:
The students are industry ready and already 2 students are placed in print and electronic media. One student is placed in spice radio and another in Gemini TV the students are well trained in photography and they are at the forefront of all the cultural and academic events and are taking pictures and submitting reports in quark express (special software for making newspaper layouts) as and when the events happen.
Already 2 students of the department are placed in different media. One student has been placed in Spice radio and another in Gemini TV.


Future plans:
Future plans of the department include establishing a full- fledged sound proof studio consisting of the latest equipment in tune with the media industry. The studio shall consist of Camera’s (3CCD), different kinds of lighting, screens, props, an audio mixing room and the latest apple mac computer for editing. It shall also have a separate editing room for training students in editing and for editing short films.

AIMS
The programme is designed to offer students a broad based education in mass communication course. The program aims to produce graduates with the necessary knowledge in mass communication and train students in theory and practical’s to make them industry ready both in print and broadcast.
The syllabus is designed keeping in view the industry requirements and hence the focus is to teach the students the techniques and nuances of the media industry and to orient them towards excel in the industry.
While the students get a overall picture of the history and evolution of the mass media, the theories and media laws they are also trained in Advertising and Public Relations so that they have a gamut of options to choose from on the complete the course.

OBJECTIVES

  • To prepare students to recognize and critically analyze the mass media and familiarize the students in the working of the media.
  • To train the students in the modern media technologies.
  • To help the students study and understands role of mass media in a society
  • To prepare students with strong academic knowledge so as to enable them to join media profession.
  • To help students to excel in the media industry by giving them hands on training in the media technologies and the requisite software.
  • To empower the students to be part of the pluralistic society by training them to critically analyze the relevant social problems plaguiging the society and to help to evaluate the social issues objectively by constants debates.
  • To help students be technically sound in convergence of the media and to help give them an impetus in achieving their best in the usage of the media technologies.
  • To help students in the usage of social media which will help them to share their ideas which helps them to debate issues.
  • To help students get the latest international news and to help them expand their horizons in the world view.
  • To help students in understanding the power of the Advertising world and the field of Public Relations.

PROSPECTS
The course curriculum is designed in such a manner that the prospects for the students on the completion of the course are manifold. They have the option to either join the print industry, the broadcast industry, Advertising or Public Relations field.

Based on the needs of the industry and market demands it caters to the students to get places in the media, corporate, public, and private sector. It is designed to provide expertise in various skills like reporting, editing, writing for the media, advertising, and public relations.

On the completion of the course the students can straight away work on any media technologies and the latest software. The hand on experience provided by the course enables the students to use the ICT’s without any hindrance.

They can prepare layouts in advertising and can fully design an advertisement from concept to consumer. Similarly in the field of Public Relations they can write the press releases or can arrange any of the media PR tools.
