URDU, a member of the Indo-Aryan of the Indo-European family of languages, is one of the major language of the South Asian subcontinent with upwards of fifty million native speakers worldwide, it is among the most important literary and cultural language of Asia. Urdu is the official language of Pakistan and is one of the officially recognized national language of India, were it was concentration of speakers in the Indian states of Utter Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. A sister language to Urdu is Hindi. In the ancient days Urdu known as a Hindustani language.

The Osmania University is the first Indian university to have Urdu as a medium of instruction. Osmania University College for women is prominent educational Institution in Hyderabad and started in 1924, Department of Urdu started from the beginning.

• Modern language Urdu for B.A (as a main subject in B.A)
• M.A in Urdu at P.G level

The Department also offer Post graduate course in Urdu.Where student are admitted on the basis of common enterance test conducted by the osmania university.In 2015 Dept interduce one interdisciplinary course for P.G students
